Back End Developer - UK Remote Working -  £62,000 – Retail

As a Back-End Developer you will work alongside their Business Analysts, other Back-End Developers, Front End Developers and Product Teams to build incredibly efficient, scalable applications using best in class modern techniques and cutting-edge technologies that operate at a huge scale.

They’re never satisfied with the status quo and truly believe that using the most modern stack and tooling is what enables them to build fast and evolving systems.

Why work here?

  • They’re cash rich, very stable, and recession proof - one of the largest privately owned company in the UK, with 580 stores and a £3 billion annual turnover
  • Finalising a totally new ecommerce site, built totally serverless and infinitely scalable (served from the edge) – it will be one of the first sites to do it at scale and one of the fastest websites on the internet – keen to invest time in the right tech
  • Privately owned business, meaning they don’t have to report to the powers that be who have no visibility on the actual business operation, no red tape, and to bureaucracy
  • Big company with small company mentality: can do big things like build a new £400mil warehouse, but also a lean team so everyone can have a voice on projects
  • Remote first, with very occasional voluntary travel to the Liverpool office (think once a quarter)

Job Overview

  • Write high quality code running stateless, distributed applications that you’re proud of, in a DevOps environment
  • Design technical solutions to complex problems
  • Develop applications to user requirements
  • Test and validate work
  • Identify issues
  • Collaborate with team members
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal systems and practices

This role would suit someone who:

  • Would relish the opportunity to work on cutting edge projects with world leading software
  • Wants to feel part of something bigger, have a say, and not be micromanaged
  • Enjoys flexibility, trust and autonomy
  • Wants to be able to build a long term career, growing and progressing with a team of like-minded people (their retention rate is brilliant because everyone is challenged, fulfilled and happy)

About you:

The hiring manager has said that due to the cutting edge nature of the stack they use, candidates don’t need a background in their specific tech – if you have the ability to write good clean code, whatever they language you use, they would be keen to speak with you.

That being said, the more experience you have with some of the following the better:

  • 3+ years’ experience in development
  • A proven ability to build applications for broad consumer audiences
  • Javascript / Typescript / Node JS
  • Go
  • Relational databases (SQL)
  • NoSQL / DynamoDB database design
  • AWS services
  • Event driven architectures
  • Working in CI / CD environments
  • Git / Version control
  • Microservices
  • Kubernetes
