So, what’s actually changed then?
The legislation is delayed, so actually not very much, and for all intents and purposes that’s certainly a good thing. You will not have to make determinations on whether a contractor is inside or outside IR35, as, until April 2021, the liability still falls with the contractor (as it always has before the changes were due to come into place). So, for a lot of would-be-buoyant companies going through a patch of uncertainty, the delay in IR35 legislation changes will certainly be a well needed breath of fresh air.
Why hire a contractor….
We’re all trying to carry on with business as usual, projects are still ongoing and boots on the ground are still needed to make this happen. However, it can be difficult onboarding a new permanent member of staff when you can’t run your usual interview processes, or have them in the office for the first month (or who knows how long) of their job.
